The thought of a run feels like a monumental task, and the sofa suddenly looks like the most appealing place on earth.<\/p><p>\u200bStaying motivated is one of the biggest challenges on any fitness journey, here are some simple, practical ways to help you get moving on those days when you really, really don't feel like it.<\/p><p><strong>\u200b1. Lower the goal<\/strong><\/p><p>\u200bThe biggest mistake we make on unmotivated days is thinking we have to stick to our full, planned routine. If you were supposed to do a 10K run, and the thought feels impossible, forget it. Instead, tell yourself you will just walk for 15 minutes, or do 10 push-ups, or just put on your workout clothes and nothing more, yes really!<\/p><p>\u200bThe goal isn't to have a perfect workout; the goal is to create momentum. More often than not, once you start with that tiny, manageable task, you\u2019ll feel a little spark of energy and want to do more. If you don't, that's okay too, you still did something, that\u2019s good!<\/p><p><strong>\u200b2. Change your scenery and your routine<\/strong><\/p><p>\u200bSometimes, the lack of motivation comes from boredom. Your usual workout routine might feel monotonous. If you\u2019re a runner, try a new trail. If you\u2019re a gym-goer, try a new class or lift weights in a different order.<\/p><p>\u200bEven a simple change can jolt you out of your unmotivated state. Try a workout you genuinely enjoy, even if it's not what you \"should\" be doing. Go for a bike ride, or even just put on some favourite music and stretch in your living room, make it fun, not an effort.<\/p><p><strong>\u200b3. Find your \"Why\"<\/strong><\/p><p>\u200bOn days when motivation is low, it helps to remind yourself why you started in the first place. Is it to be a healthier? To feel more confident?<\/p><p>\u200bTake a little time to sit down and write a few sentences about why you are committed to this journey. Put this note somewhere you\u2019ll see it regularly. On tough days, read it. Remind yourself that this is about more than just a workout it\u2019s about your well-being, your goals, and your future.<\/p><p><strong>\u200b4. The power of commitment<\/strong><\/p><p>\u200bIt's much harder to skip a workout when someone else is counting on you. Find a workout buddy or join a running club. Knowing that a friend is waiting for you at the track or that your team is expecting you to show up can be the nudge you need.<\/p><p><strong>\u200b5. Be kind to yourself<\/strong><\/p><p>\u200bFinally, and most importantly, remember that it's okay to have off days. Motivation is not a constant state that we must be in, it comes and goes, it\u2019s perfectly normal. Pushing yourself too hard when you\u2019re genuinely feeling exhausted can lead to burnout, injury, or demoralise you further.<\/p><p>\u200bInstead of beating yourself up for not wanting to work out, be kind to yourself. Note how you're feeling, then make a small, positive choice. Maybe it's not a run, but a brisk walk. Maybe it's not an intense HIIT session, but a few minutes of yoga. Give yourself credit for showing up in any capacity to whatever you decide to do that day, because that's what truly builds a sustainable fitness habit.<\/p><p>\u200bConsistency isn\u2019t about being perfect all of the time, always hitting a target or a personal best, so on those unmotivated days, just do a little.
